Ca-CHUNK!

Just seconds ago, I watched on mlb.com's gameday, the Twins last batter hit a grounder to Scutaro to end the game. A's win 1-0. And just like that, their 2 game losing streak is over and they have won their first game this year in the Metrodome.

Haren appeared to be dealing today, as I watched while eating my steak fajitas at Una Mas. Then they decided to go with Street in the 9th. I could make the case that since Dan Haren had shut them out for 8 and thrown 101 pitches, he could have pitched the 9th. But Street saved it so I can't really argue with the results. One more game done, one game off the magic number, the A's will be no less than 4.5 games up at the end of today. Sounds pretty good.

Gettin the Hell outa Tampa

The A's weekend series went 8-6, 6-9, 9-7. They won 2 and lost 1, but it was not a pretty series at all. Our seemingly awesome pitching staff ran into a bunch of Devil Rays swinging hard and hitting hard. It seemed like someone was scoring every inning all weekend. Huston Street got 2 saves but didn't look any better than any of the other A's pitchers out there. That 5.5 game lead is still intact though, with 3 less games on the schedule. It doesn't look to get any easier, going to MN for 3 against the hot Twins, who don't seem to be ready to hand the AL Central to the Tigers quite yet. The Angels play the White Sox, so the top 2 teams in the AL West are playing the top two wildcard contenders from the AL Central. Pretty good scheduling.
