A Parade of Clowns

I went to the game today. A's win in sun-drenched Oakland 2-1. It was a game that could have easily slipped away. Haren threw 122 pitches, the last one produced a grounder to chavvy to get him out of the 6th. Curt Young went out there in the 6th and I guess he told him something like, "we've got 5 pitchers on the dl, as soon as we take you out, we start putting in aaa guys, see if you can't get out of this." I really believe Haren could not have gotten another batter out. But he left with a 1-0 lead. In the 7th, the parade of clowns started. Keesler pitched to only 1 guy, who got an infield single. Calero got one guy out of the 3 he faced, and let in Keesler's run. Then Halsey came in. Halsey only was available because Harden is coming off the dl tomorrow, and it wasn't a moment too soon. Halsey got out of the 7th. In the 8th, the first 2 guys got on on Halsey. Then Macha made the 4th pitching change in 2 innings, bringing in Street with a 2-1 lead and 2 on, no outs. This was it, it is the top of the 8th, and we are down to our very last pitcher. It seemed like the whole game would have been much easier if Haren could have kept the pitch count down. But the first pitch Street threw, was bunted in the air, and Kendall caught it. With the tying run on 2nd and the go ahead run on first, Street threw 9 pitches, 8 for strikes, and was out of the 8th. Then Street threw the 9th. After the lead off walk, he resumed the mowing of the Twins. About the toughest save imaginable. A tough tough game and a great great win. TGRHIB. Thank God Rich Harden is BACK!

Not Winning Right Now

The A's are not winning much lately. They have sunk to 5 games under .500. But it still may and last year they got to 15 games under before turning it on. They are a streaky team. I think the catalyst for getting the A's on track is Rich Harden. The whole team picks it up when that guy is pitching once every 5 days. Getting Duchscherer off the DL would help too.
